State Rep. Tests Positive for Virus — Couldn’t Even Tell He Had It
We are destroying everything over a virus that most people can’t even tell they have.
A Texas House member tested positive for the coronavirus after being on the chamber floor for three straight days, giving lawmakers an early indication of the dangers of governing during the pandemic.
State Rep. Joe Deshotel, D-Beaumont, told The Texas Tribune he tested positive Thursday — three days after lawmakers gaveled in for this year’s legislative session. The Democrat said he received a rapid test outside the Capitol because it was “free and quick” as he was heading home Thursday afternoon.
He has “no idea” how he contracted it, said Deshotel, who is currently quarantining and reported minor symptoms. “I don’t know where it came from. It rather shocked me when the guy told me.”
Shocked, I tell ya.
Imagine walking up to someone on the street in 2019 and explaining they were carrying a deadly virus, so deadly that it warrants shutting down the entire world economy and changing our entire society so that everything revolves around this virus.
Then imagine telling them it doesn’t matter that they have no symptoms, and it doesn’t matter that they will never have symptoms, because 80-year-olds in nursing homes are dying.
“Minor symptoms” means a runny nose, by the way. Something that happens to everyone when the weather gets cold.
Tell me, dear reader, does this Representative look like the picture of perfect health?
Travis County has a population of over 1.2 million people. As of today they are reporting 372 patients in ICU that have Covid.
Mind you, we are in the middle of what has always been known as “flu season.” This is the time of year when a bunch of people always get sick. So someone being sick in January is just about the most unremarkable thing imaginable.
The new normal is have to lie and say it’s abnormal for people to get sick in January.
