OPINION: Real Conservatives Support Men in Women’s Sports
Conservative hero Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words are important to remember. Although he didn’t say it, it nevertheless rings true.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on plains of Texas, the sons trans couples the sons of non-trans couples will be able to sit down together at the table of personhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Texas, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice for gender non-confirming BIPOC.
I have a dream that my trans kids will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the arbitrary designation on their birth certificate but by their actual athletic abilities.
You can feel the power emanating from these words as if to be a perceivable energy force of justice and truth.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. . . . ” By appealing to self-evident truths, the American Founders laid the groundwork for totally equal rights under the law. The principle that anyone will be treated differently is literally the same as Hitler. Equal access to a close proximity to whomever you want is the guiding vision outlined in the Declaration of Independence.
Republican Representative Valoree Swanson’s bill to separate men and women in athletic competition is nothing more than segregation. And segregation is pure evil. Full stop.
People should be treated equally no matter their race, religion, or sex. Do you not agree?
This is what defines America, removing the antiquated traditions of our forefathers like separation and replacing them with the conservative ideals of equal rights is what makes us Americans. Separate but equal is not equal, as every conservative will tell you.
I think we can all agree that it’s a conservative position to want to give women equal rights. When one person is denied equal rights, we are all denied equal rights. Therefore, we must end this practice of discrimination in sports, because discrimination is something which we must always condemn.
Conservatism is about freedom. That’s why real conservatives support same sex marriage. Just ask the Young Republicans. They will be fully on board with ending the sex-based segregation and discrimination in sports any minute now.
Conservatives believe America should be based on equal opportunity. Why should a little boy have his dreams crushed just because he was born different? We cannot control the circumstances of our birth, therefore all sports leagues should allow for anyone to participate.
In fact, it’s already happening. So it’s actually conservative to want to protect this American tradition.
If segregation is morally wrong then any law enforcing segregation is morally wrong.
The only people who support segregation are the radical Christian nationalists. They falsely claim with no evidence that God ordained segregation as the permanent condition of man at the Towel of Babel and the scattering of the tribes.
Consider what the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught of the Christian faith:
Luke 12:52-53
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
It’s time to get with the times and to uphold the most conservative value of all — Accept what is happening and move the goalposts on what conservatives are willing to fight against.
