CURRENT REVOLT INTERVIEWS: DAN CHANDLER, CANDIDATE HD70
Tonight the McKinney First PAC hosted a candidate forum which was moved to online due to weather issues. The forum had a bit of technical difficulties but being online allowed everyone to hear the candidates safely from the comfort of their home.
One of the candidates at the forum tonight was Dan Chandler who is running for HD70. Many of the people on the live chat found Dan rather charming and someone they could see grabbing a beer with and we couldn’t agree more. We gave Dan a call and did a bit of an interview.
Current Revolt: Hi Dan, thanks for taking the time to chat with us so late. What inspired you to run for office?
Dan Chandler: I’m everybody’s candidate. I’ve worked all my life to protect life, I’m a Christian man. Even during session I go down to Austin and I park my car there every day at the capitol to pray with people for a good outcome for our state. This work I’ve been doing is what lead me to finally run.
CR: HD70 is a newly drawn district. It also leans +5 Biden. Do you think there’s still a chance for the district to swing red?
DC: I do and I think I’m the man to do this. I’m not a career politician like some of my challengers. The government should be run by the people. The Texas state capitol is corrupt to the core. Those politicians down there think they’re gods. They’re selling us out and this needs to change.
CR: Who do you believe is the next best candidate in your race?
DC: Eric Bowlin probably.
CR: Who do you think is the worst choice?
DC: That Hayden guy. Based off my perception, Hayden is smooth, I can tell he wants money and power. These guys are the types that get in front of people saying they’re conservative but they totally change when they get to Austin.
CR: Have you been conservative all of your life?
DC: I didn’t even know what those terms were back when I was in high school. But here’s what changed me, in the 7th grade I became a Christian and from that moment on my views and life were guided by God.
CR: What’s your thoughts on Greg Abbott?
DC: You know I do have a problem with Governor Abbott. He took money from these transgender pharma companies giving hormone drugs to kids. That is not Christian or conservative. I have a serious problem with this.
That being said, I was asked during this debate to criticize Governor Abbott and I wouldn’t do it. Is he perfect? No. But who among us is?
CR: How do you feel about others perception of you or your ideas?
DC: I don’t care who I make mad or piss off. I just know I’m doing the right thing and my heart is in the right place.
CR: A year ago you went to the Collin County GOP headquarters to sign up for phone banking. Representative Matt Shaheen refused to let a volunteer sign you up and then offered you donuts before kicking you out of the GOP office. What happened here and why did Shaheen do this?
DC: I call Matt Shaheen, Sashayeen. Do you know why? Cuz he’s good at mentally sashaying.
These politicians love to treat anyone they think is beneath them like they’re stupid or like they’re trash. But Shaheen is scared of me, and that’s ok because I know I’m doing the right thing.
